From misconceptions to tHrIVe – why we rebuilt this site
Over the last month, we’ve been sharing 31 misconceptions about HIV – one each day from 1–31 December.
Some were about treatment – “HIV is a death sentence”, “HIV meds are always toxic”.
Some were about stigma and shame – “You must tell everyone your status”, “You can’t join a support group until you’re doing well”.
Others were about everyday life – “You can’t work if you have HIV”, “Christmas and holidays are ruined”.
The new tHrIVe website has been built directly in response to those worries:
- Home and Support are calmer and clearer, so there’s a simple “start here” instead of a wall of text.
- Peer Support, Mentoring and Community have their own space, because most people don’t just need facts – they need other people.
- The Resources page links to trusted national information and explains key ideas like U=U, HIV vs AIDS, and how HIV is (and isn’t) passed on.
- Accessibility, privacy and data are set out in plain language, so you can see how we aim to look after you and your information.
None of this replaces clinic care. What tHrIVe offers is something different: peer support and community for people living with HIV in and around Nottingham – including people who are newly diagnosed, returning to care, or just not sure where to start.
If one of the 31 misconceptions still feels very close to home, you’re not the only one. This site, and the group behind it, exist so you don’t have to untangle it all on your own.
